SQUIRREL. personality + energetic, friendly, optimistic, affectionate, outspoken, curious, confident, innocent, gregarious, decisive. - spoiled, mischievous, hyperactive, naive, gullible, stubborn, arrogant, messy, impolite, raucous. history Although Taixun has only been alive for several short years, he has already managed to make an impact on those he has met. Despite being the youngest of three children, he is the only son of the eldest prince of Xihe and is thus both his father’s heir and a duke. However, although he enjoys being referred to by his title, the boy still does not understand the weight of his station or the political intricacies of his nation. The first years of Taixun’s life were rather uneventful, though he was a rather lively baby. However, his earliest memory, one that would define him, occurred when he was about three and a half. The lad had always enjoyed sweet foods, but one fateful afternoon one of the servants slipped the boy a piece of chocolate for the first time. He was hesitant at first, but Taixun was never the sort to be suspicious of gifts. Into his mouth the small square went and an obsession was born. For a time all he wanted to eat was chocolate and he had to be bribed to put anything else into his mouth. Before long he learned that other candy existed and his fixation expanded to include all sorts of treats. He became rather adept at finding those who were willing to sneak him candy, whether they be his family members, servants, or other members of the court. Often these individuals believed that they were the sole source of Taixun’s candy supply and he was content to allow them to retain such an illusion. Had his parents been less vigilant when it came to brushing his teeth, the boy would have lost most of them before long. Taixun might have become a rather chubby child had it not been for his rather active nature. Almost as soon as he could walk he turned up all over the palace, often in surprising places. Often exasperated servants would be forced to escort him back to his parents several times a day. Sometimes his caretakers could only speculate how he managed to end up in the kitchens one moment and before long end up stuck in a tree out in the gardens. On one of these minor escapades he found himself in one of the training halls where several samurai were sparring. Although he was only able to watch them for several short minutes before he was discovered and subsequently returned to his parents, Taixun developed a deep admiration for the men and their skill with their swords. He didn’t really comprehend this honor side of it when it was explained to him, but he that didn’t really matter. Almost immediately after his return from the training halls Taixun decided that he was going to be a samurai. Unfortunately for nearly everyone else, this meant that he had a new fascination with swords. Since nobody seemed to be willing to give him one, Taixun decided that a stick would have to do. His overactive imagination was able to turn it into an elaborate blade that could strike down any foe. Of course, his foes tended to simply be just about anyone who he came across when he was in the mood to swing his stick around. Often he made up nonsensical adventures in order to display his skill and the nearest person became his enemy. However, those that tended to supply him with candy on a regular basis were often spared unless he could not find anyone else to play the role. Although his stick was confiscated on a daily basis, Taixun either managed to get it back almost immediately or if that didn’t work there were plenty of swords out in the garden for him to choose from. Soon after his fifth birthday, the weight of Taixun’s position began to be forced upon him. He was introduced to a personal tutor and he was made to attend daily lessons. Taixun was a bright lad, but he found siting still and learning to read and write to be incredibly boring. As a result, for a time he ran away and hid whenever it was time for his lessons. His first tutor gave up after several weeks, feeling that although teaching a duke was an honor, it was one he could forgo. However, the boy’s second tutor used a different approach that proved to be rather effective. Quite simply he quickly learned of the lad’s obsession with candy and resorted to bribery. Before long Taixun was dutifully attending his lessons, knowing that he was going to receive a rather generous helping of sugar when he was finished. His tutor found that he actually liked teaching the rambunctious child and soon ended up being a willing participant in Taixun’s adventures, although he often did try to keep the boy from going too far when it came to vanquishing his enemies. Despite recent changes to his lifestyle, Taixun is still very much the terror of the palace. Perhaps one day he will be a responsible and proper duke, but that day is still far off. While it may not last forever, Taixun is still content to enjoy his childhood before the weight of responsibility settles about his shoulders. notes Likes:
