His parents, and their parents before them, had all been officers of the military of Xihe. Each one carried their own personal achievement and remarkable history of service, and each one was a powerful warrior on their own right. Of course, when Kai Lu was born, he too was expected to follow the very same footsteps. However, due to his parents' priority and duty to their country, Kai Lu never really spent much time with them. Instead, he was raised under the tutelage of his uncle, a martial artist who owned a Dojo. And there, Kai Lu began his training to be like his parents. Instead of despising them for taking away his freedom of choosing his own life, however, Kai Lu grew instead to accept his fate and in fact, began to admire his parents and grandparents after hearing stories of their feats. He wanted to be just like them. Brave, courageous, daring, loyal to the last man and be recognized as a hero. With his goal in life set, Kai Lu trained hard in the Dojo, becoming one of its most prominent students. And then, when he turned the legal age of eighteen, he requested permission from his uncle to graduate. Understanding what Kai Lu sought to do, he officialised Kai Lu's black belt status, and allowed him to set out on his own. But not before turning him into a true Wei warrior. Kai Lu was gifted that day, under the instructions of his father, the pair of golden gauntlets that his grandfather used to wield in his time in the army. Elated with the new set of weapons he had received, Kai Lu set out to see the world. And of course, he joined the Xihe military, his training and skill with his Artes allowing him to easily pass through the examination. The status of his parents, of course, only made it so much easier. In the military, Kai Lu found himself being posted into a unit of soldiers under a single commander. They were a small band of warriors, newly formed, but alas, the camaraderie between them was the kind that Kai Lu had hoped to obtain upon joining the force. They became his closest friends, and they to him. His expectations of life in the army only brightened up during those months with them. But alas, not everything was a smooth ride forever. A few months after Kai Lu turned nineteen, he was met with a greatly shocking set of news. His parents, part of an escort of a small ship full of gold, had been ambushed and supposed betrayed by the second-in-command of the operation. The ship had been plundered, and all but the second-in-command was killed as it was crashed into a mountain side. Kai Lu was devastated. The heroes that he grew up to admire and love had been murdered by simple pirates, and the betrayal of a corrupt officer. Enraged by this, Kai Lu went AWOL, disappearing from his barracks. Anticipating this, however, his own commanding officer sends the unit out to intercept Kai Lu. By the time they had caught up to the young soldier, Kai Lu had already began his assault on the pirates. Left with no choice, the unit moved in to aid Kai Lu. Kai Lu's torment would not end just yet, however. It was then that he discovered why his parents had been defeated. It was not entirely due to their companion's betrayal, but the pirates themselves were no small fries either. Kai Lu and his unit began to fight instead for their lives, but driven by his lust for revenge, Kai Lu pushed on, forcing his friends to do the same. It was a bloody battle, but the one that came out on top was Kai Lu. And only Kai Lu. And his dying father, made prisoner and tortured for information of more gold trading ships. He was barely alive, and Kai Lu, already losing his mind due to the losses he had suffered, found himself obeying his father's final order. He was to lie on his report, and hide the very fact that he had been the one to cause the death of his unit. He was to bring the gold back, and live on to uphold the glory of the Wei family. He was to carry on in their footsteps. The area was littered with the corpses of pirates and his unit mates, leaving him the last survivor. Not wanting their sacrifices in vain, a decision he made with his eyes full of tears, Kai Lu dragged the gold back home. Instead of being court-martialed for his crime, however, Kai Lu was regarded a hero by the people. And he was promoted to the very same rank as his parents, for bringing their honor back. This event itself changed Kai Lu's initial decision to surrender himself in. He had more than his personal guilt to live with, no. He had the dreams and lives of the people he had dragged into the battle with him, the expectations of his parents and his father's final order. With that said, he swallowed in all his pain, and brought that signature smile back to his face, carrying on his duty, now as an officer of the army. notes LIKES/DISLIKES + Oriental food + Training spars + The country of Zhi Ming + The colors gold and yellow + Mangoes + Natural environments - Threats to his country - Complex explanations - Paperwork - Alcohol - Cold weather - Bullies and troublemakers tokugawa ieyasu - sengoku basara - kai lu wei |
