[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width: 387px,bTable][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign,top] | [atrb=valign, top] I AM NOW, AN INSTRUMENT OF VIOLENCE! I AM A VESSEL OF INVINCIBILITY! Just how long has this train been going for? Lucas lost count by now in this dimly lit room that was comparable to that of a cramped cargo. Every now and then, guards brought him some food and drinks, so that counted for something. They weren’t all that bad either considering it’s what the soldiers ate, but whenever they asked questions regarding the girl that he was with, he kept his mouth shut about it like he had done to their general, Cassiondra quite a while ago. If things had started to get a little risky, he threw in a half-truth here and there just to give them something to work with and wrap their heads around. If it were her, they probably would’ve noticed that he was hiding something and telling a blatant lie about the whole situation.
Still, Lucas couldn’t help other than to wonder why Zoe was so wanted by the Empire. When he asked such question, they said along the lines of: ‘it’s none of your business.’ Just what was she to these people? It was quite clear at this point to the boy that she wasn’t a criminal, but rather something else. Since the day that he had helped her to get away, he sensed a different air about her. She was not of this world, especially with that odd-looking sword that she carried around, which was now in possession of the soldiers in this train somewhere.
Well, not that it really mattered at this point. From here on out, Lucas was well aware that his life had just gone down the crapper. He was going to go away for a long time, maybe till the days when the death was starting to loom over him considering the things he had done. Just how was he supposed to face his parents, and his older brother? Sure, he was not exactly close to them, but it didn’t change the fact that he was related to them by blood. Then again, Lucas doubted that they would go out of the way to visit their troublesome son who had caused them so much misery over the course of the years. For them, it was probably better for the ‘Ogre’ to disappear from their family, or at least, that’s how he saw it.
Suddenly, his thoughts abruptly came to a halt when he heard what was going outside. From the looks of things, it was just an utter chaos. It really sounded like the soldiers were moving left and right with orders being given constantly nonstop. Just what was going on? It didn’t sound like the train was planning on stopping any time soon. To have a better idea of the situation, Lucas leaned his ear against the thick iron door to get an idea of what was going on the other side of this cell, but little did he know that this situation would spell disaster.
“There she is, don’t let her get away!”
… 'Her'? When he heard that word, he knew that the woman was probably none other than 'Zoe'. If it truly was the case, then she was here to save him. Lucas couldn’t help other than to slap the palm of his hand on his face upon realization. It was almost idiotic – if not, suicidal to raid the train alone. This wasn’t going to end well, not with that General of the navy onboard. “That idiot, what is she thinking?!” |

Nodding to the others she gripped the handle to the door that led outside and wrenched it open, stepping out onto the platform that bridged the two cars. Ducking down so as not to be seen, she dashed across the short space and whipped open the door to the next car, hoping that Leras wouldn’t be too far behind.
Several soldiers stood along the thin corridor, guarding a compartment to the side. That had to be where they were holding Lucas and hopefully the Sword of Maxwell too. As the door clattered open, the soldiers turned to see who was approaching. None of them seemed to be on their guard; they weren’t exactly expecting anyone to have boarded the train after it had left the station. They stared at her for a moment before bursting into action, shouting orders and getting in each other’s way as they realized who Zoe was.
One of the men called for the others to ensure she didn’t escape, which made Zoe smirk slightly. Did it really look as though she were trying to escape this time? Honestly, it was relieving not to be fleeing for once. Instead she was finally taking the fight to them, even if it was only for a short while before running away once again. Regardless, after running for so long she was finally face to face with some of her pursuers, attacking them for once. Zoe realized this was also the first time she had faced them without injuries, so for once the odds weren’t completely stacked against her.
Well, they were outnumbered six to two, but the corridor was only wide enough for two people to fight comfortable alongside one another. Besides, if Voletta was successful in crashing through the side of the train car and could enter Lucas’ compartment, then she could free him and then there would be another two on their side. If they were fortunate, Lucas and Voletta would be behind the soldiers as well and they could catch them in a classic pincer attack. Zoe tried not to think about everything that could go wrong on Voletta’s end though; she could either lose her balance while trying to swing over the side of the car or she might not be able to crash through the glass window. Even if she did managed to break the glass, its sharp edges might inflict a number of injuries before she even managed to get into the car. Still, Voletta had seemed confident that she would be able to do it, so Zoe could only hope that she knew what she was doing.
Besides, right now Zoe had her own enemies to worry about. Before they could get organized, she swung her sword down, striking the floor of the train car. Instead of simply cutting into the surface, the strike created a shockwave which shot down the length of the hallway to crash into the foremost guard. He stumbled backwards, blood from her attack seeping out of a wound in his chest, and the soldier directly behind him collided into his back. The injured soldier was thrown to the ground while the second man struggled to extricate himself from his wounded companion. However a third soldier stepped easily around the others and came directly at her, drawing his own sword as he approached.
Zoe stepped to the side of the corridor to ensure that Leras would have room to fight as well before striding forwards to meet the soldier. She deflected the first swing of his sword with her shield and then thrust forwards with her shortsword to pierce his side. As the man reeled backwards, Zoe felt a sort of strange confidence rush through her. So far this had gone surprisingly well. If their success continued then their rescue would almost certainly be successful.
However, the man she had been fighting stumbled forwards, but instead of attacking her he shoved past and raced out the open doorway behind her. Since Zoe had been expecting him to attempt to strike her again, she wasn’t able to turn and strike him down quick enough before he was out of range and the other soldiers commanded her attention.
“Look who’s running now!” she called after him, although he shout was fueled more by annoyance at herself. The guard was almost certainly heading to find reinforcements and if he was successful then more soldiers would be flooding into the car within minutes. Still, there wasn’t anything Zoe could do about it now except to hurry up. If they could finish off the guards and grab Lucas before the other soldiers arrived then their mission might still end in success. word count -- tags -- notes -- |

DIVIDE AND CONQUER THE TRIALS OF MAN.
Voletta had a plan, and though she left his sight to do what she wished to help the two of them, he, like Zoe, also worried about all the things that could go wrong. He might've been a worrywart, but this wasn't the type of situation that one should mess up on. If only they had planned this a bit better, but when you were thrown into a situation where you barely had time to think, you just had to go with quickly thought plans instead and hope they work out in the end. Leaving those cares behind him in the meanwhile, he followed Zoe into the next car, finding that as soon as the guards registered their vision upon the two, they immediately got into position and their vocal order of ensuring that she did not escape caused Leras to scoff inwardly at this. Letting his gaze fall to the woman next to him he found that she was smirking just a little. Was she finding some form of enjoyment from this. Leras was infected by it, closing his eyes and bearing a small amused smile while he reached behind him slowly for his polished spear.
"Your reputation precedes you, as it does for my own." He spoke, now soaking in he confidence she seemed to exude. Perhaps she had run into guard trouble before and was feeling an emotion similar to the satisfaction he felt when he had gone against the guards under Ridgley's service? Leras had never really seen Zoe fight before, so when she unsheathed her sword and swung down, the shock wave was a bit surprising to him. It crashed into one of the soldiers he was pleasantly surprised. Those days they spent together with Vol at her house was mostly spent talking and recuperating (and he won't admit that he spent some of those hours secretly training and walking around). He had never seen her real work with the sword and shield she carried and especially not with her body completely rejuvenated and free of wounds. She handled herself well, the guard stumbled back, fell over and blood was clearly visible from the flesh wound.
She stepped to the side to give him space to fight just as soon as one of the guards moved past the two injured fellows and engaged in combat with Zoe. Though she had wounded him, he pushed past the two of them to another car. Leras narrowed his eyes, even if Zoe appeared confident, they still had some more work that needed to be done and reinforcements didn't sound like a walk in daisies to Leras. Planning on putting his new-found combat experience to use, he took a few steps forward he gripped his spear tight in his dominant hand, immediately tensing as soon as one of the guards accepted his challenge. Wielding a blunt mace, he swung it horizontally, aiming to knock him out in his head withone blow. With Leras being less constrained by heavy armor, he swiftly ducked and felt a breeze brush past his hair from the heavy object swinging above his head. Taking this time to counterattack, he thrust the polished spear into the man, piercing past his sternum easily. The man coughed, knowing that his lungs were thoroughly pierced like a pin in a cushion.
He hacked, blood dribbling from his lips and Leras quietly glared at him, shoving the weapon further in until he could hear a distinct pop. The man slid from his spear and to the floor, the noise of his heavy armor colliding with the floor was almost sickening. "Nuisance." Leras grunted, stepping past him and towards the last man standing in the room. "The man with the black hair, he is here, correct?" The guard held up his sword, obviously not saying a word. "...an oath of silence out of honorable duty. ...I understand." The guard rushed forward, however, slipped on the blood from one of his comrades that was now freshly dead on the floor. While still in the air, Leras conjured a strong gust of wind to revolve around him, the vortex jerking the man a different way and that happened to be in one of the windows. The guard crashed through the window, hurtling to his death below. Leras simply shook his head. "This speaks volumes of their training regime's."
He turned to face Zoe, calm despite the carnage he had just unleashed upon two guards. "There will be more soon." He looked down to the floor, almost as if he was wondering what he should say next. "This man must be very important to you. I don't have the luxury of having someone so precious. ...but you are my... friend, so maybe..." His voice drifted off, looking away. "...maybe that applies to you too." He had a bit more of a determined expression. "In that case I will protect you and I expect the same from you." Such is what friendship was about, he assumed. If he had to fight to the death here then so be it.

GO AND TELL YOUR WHITE KNIGHT THAT HE'S HANDSOME IN HINDSIGHT, 'CAUSE I DON'T WANT THE NEXT BEST THING. SO I SING AND HOLD MY HEAD DOWN AND I BREAK THESE WALLS AROUND ME. CAN'T TAKE NO MORE OF YOUR "FAIRY TALE LOVE" ---- A small smile was the only thing she offered to her parting friends before turning on her heel toward the door. Once her body was outside the wind from the moving train hit her with full force, if she had been different it would have knocked her on her ass. Finally grateful for her training the female placed a booted heel onto the side of the car, reaching her hand upward she quickly climbed the car landing with a small soundless thump upon the ground. No matter what the situation she had to move faster then normal, time lost could end up with someone hurt. Placing one foot in front of the other she moved with the grace of a swan. Her movements never drifting from their real destination. Doing this act would in fact cause her more harm then good. Coming to stand over the males window she lowered herself to her heels as her fingers reached out to grip the side of the car roof.
Planning this would be most important thing for the young female. She could not just toss herself into the window, coming in wrong could and would get her injured more then she would already be. Allowing her eyes to gently close Voletta held onto the ledge as she swung her body upward. Shifting her hands to switch position of each other she came down in a twist quickly. Those booted feet slamming hard into the window with the force of her action. The moment her feet had touched the glass, cracks moved rapidly across the surface before it shattered completely. Allowing the female to toss her body into the place the male was located in. She could feel the moment she allowed her fingers unwrap from the ledge landing on her feet with a thump in the apartment of the car.
The only thing Voletta could say was, thank god she had put on shorts that morning rather then her normal attire. Moving her eyes away from the figure who she was suppose to be saving. Voletta took in her injuries, her legs were torn up rather good. Small cuts lining the pale skin as blood began to ooze from its pores. Just seeing her legs, she knew that she would end up having some cuts written upon her face. It just did not seem like she had came in clean enough to afford such things. Really she had to work on this. Reaching her hands outward she stared down at the scrapes that had formed there also. Ignoring them she allowed her fingers to quickly run over her sides checking for any other injuries. A sharp pain to her lower side caused the female to sigh. Seemed like coming out of this totally unharmed was not possible. Quickly checking that the black of her shirt covered the blood the female made her way over to the male. This was the person that Zoe had wanted to save? She should not judge a book by it's cover.
Who was she kidding? The female was judging from the moment she had seen. Keeping her mouth shut as she came to stand before the male Voletta reached behind her body toward the Volin case that lay rested against her back. Quickly finding the trick hole she clicked a small button which allowed for her Katana to slide from its hiding space and into her fingertips. "I am friends with Zoe. We are here to rescue you"

i just want one more chance [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true]The sounds of commotion along the nearby hallway caught Cassiondra's attention. She was a few cars away, but she could hear some sort of noise; perhaps merely her men getting into squabbles again. Or perhaps that mouthy boy, Lucas, had insulted one of them, something which he was quite skilled at. The latter she wouldn't have been surprised by. He'd been quite mouthy to the blonde herself, though she was unaffected by his squabbling. She'd been bred to ignore such insults, as she knew adversaries with lippy tendencies like Lucas would take advantage of a temper. Not to mention, allowing her temper to get the better of her could be fatal in situations.
She was processing various ways she might be able to get the boy to talk, however, when one of her soldiers burst through the door of the cabin, almost stumbling as he walked. Immediately she stood up, curious by the interruption, and her mind was set the moment she saw the blood dripping from the man's side. He'd been attacked, and by the look on his face, it hadn't been by a fellow soldier. Was it the boy? No, that wouldn't be possible. He was well-tied, and she doubted that any of her men would have released him, not unless they were a bunch of pea-brained idiots. They knew their orders, and to defy the General would mean a fate worse than death.
"The girl... the ancient girl, she's on the train, General," the man gasped out, stumbling towards her. She ran towards him, supporting him into a chair where he could rest as she examined his wounds briefly. A few of the Schwartz men on the train would likely be able to help with his wounds, one of which she signaled to through the door to the next car. Immediately he entered, taking over examination of the Rouge man's injuries.
"I will see to it that she doesn't escape. Don't die on me now, soldier," she replied with a nod, turning on her heel to make her way through to the next car. Sprinting, it didn't take her long to reach the door adjacent to the room they were keeping Lucas hidden in. She could hear commotion on the other side of the car, and then the crash of breaking glass. She listened, carefully. She could hear two of them in the hallway, and there had to be at least one in Lucas' cabin. She heard another crash, coming from the hallway, and the scream of one of her men. She winced. That alone told her he'd been thrown out the window, and there would be no survival in that. Uttering a silent prayer for the men who might've just now sacrificed their lives to the infiltrators, she made a vow to see this incident through. She knew the Rouge general was on the other side of the car, and would likely be in his specific car.
Scrambling, she looked for one of the train's communicators, something they'd had installed for this particular train in order for them to communicate should there be issues. Quickly, she radioed the other general, notifying him of the situation. Three intruders, all there for Lucas. The Ancient girl was said to be with them. They were armed, lethal, and dangerous. She did not have a body count for him, but there was one of the Rouge men injured back in her cabin being attended to by a Schwartz healer. She then radioed to the front, calling two of her Azurine soldiers to join her, along with a Rouge and a Schwartz man. She knew the skillsets of each of these men, and knew they would work well together, alongside both the Lead General and the Rouge General.
She listened, waiting until she could hear movement in the cabin, then began peering through the slightest of cracks in the door. She could see three figures, plus Lucas, one of which she recognized -- the girl her men had tailed from Seit, though she did not recognize the other two. The boy was clearly a halfling, given away by the visible wings upon his back. Cassiondra could care less whether he was human or halfling. He was an intruder, and he would be dealt with accordingly. She noted the spear in his hands, then turned her attention to the other girl. The case upon her back... It appeared to look like a violin case, and yet in her hand was a katana. Clearly she'd used the blade as a means to untie Lucas, and it was clear she had burst through the window to rescue him; the cuts and scrapes on her arms and legs gave that much indication. She looked far more agile than the other two, leaving Cassiondra to speculate that she either had some form of training, or she too was a halfling.
With Lucas freed now, though, that meant they had four people to deal with. Luckily, it would be two generals and four majors against them, leaving them both strength in numbers and, hopefully, strength in skillset as well. The Rouge and Schwartz men would be with her fellow General, Auldrant, and the two Azurine would follow their lady general from the other side, effectively allowing them to flank the enemy. Once her two men arrived, she waited.
Once the two men were at her back, she opened the door to the train cabin, entering with both her soldiers flanking her.
"I believe your little scheme is over, Zoe. And to believe you would be foolish enough to walk directly into an elaborate trap like this." She was taunting the girl, the same way Lucas might have taunted her, testing the girl's limits. It was true, though; she had been foolish enough to walk right into the trap. Cassiondra has considered it a possibility that Zoe might have the nerve to come rescue her friend, and even considered that they might infiltrate the train. She had been more set on the idea that they'd try and spring Lucas before he reached the castle, rather than infiltrate on the train itself. That, in itself, was entirely foolish. Where possibly could they go? Outside the train likely spelled death, as jumping from a moving train wasn't exactly the smartest of ideas. They had to hope they could defeat every soldier on this train in order to make it to Gladiolus alive -- and hope they could get past the soldiers at the station, too.
"You might as well consider yourself lucky, Lucas. You wanted to see me draw my blade against you. Your little friend has brought such a fate upon all of you." Calmly reaching to her side, she slowly withdrew the sparkling steel from its sheath, hefting the blade easily. They would have seen the emotion die from the woman's face almost completely as the blade was in her hand, and although she wanted the boy and the Ancient alive, the halfling and the girl with the violin were of no issue to her. If they chose to stand in the way, they very well might die on the General's blade. Cassiondra could see Auldrant and his two men covering the other door, leaving the four completely surrounded.
"You have once chance. Surrender. I might show you mercy if you do." to put my arms in fragile hands |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width: 387px,bTable][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign,top] | [atrb=valign, top] I AM NOW, AN INSTRUMENT OF VIOLENCE! I AM A VESSEL OF INVINCIBILITY! Lucas looked around the room to see what he could use to escape and aid Zoe in her battle. The longer he waited; it was more likely that she’ll be overrun by the sheer number of soldiers onboard. There was that window that he could narrowly fit through, but he didn’t bother trying earlier because of how much noise it would make. Well, at this point, it didn’t matter so much now that the guards were at disarray. He had to take an advantage of this situation. With that in his mind, Lucas took off his jacket and wrapped it around his arm, preparing to punch the entire window out using his brutish strength alone. Just as he did so, someone – or, something decided to crash through it and kick him right in the face. Thankfully, the glass shards didn’t harm him other than leave a few scraps on his arms. Whoever did that could’ve really said something before they decided to do this, honestly, that was a very stupid idea.
The boy slowly stood up, rubbing the part of his face where he got kicked. Despite the pain, he was able to shrug it off and have a look at his said savior without much complaint. Well, this person certainly was a girl, but wasn’t exactly Zoe as he would remember her. Just what was going on? "I am friends with Zoe. We are here to rescue you"
Oh, that explained it. Friends with Zoe, huh? So the girl decided to come with a group after all. While it certainly sounded a lot less foolish than raiding this train alone as he had initially thought earlier, it still didn’t change the fact that the bitch general was still onboard and could probably take them all on while sipping on her own goddamned noble-brand tea. Hopefully, they could escape the place in time before the general decided to join in the battle. “Yeah, let’s not waste any time. We have to hurry before she decides to join the fight.” Lucas nodded at the girl and carefully climbed up through the window up to the roof of the car along with the girl who rescued him to join up with Zoe. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the time to recover the Sword of Maxwell due to time constraints. In fact, he didn’t even know where the soldiers had put it in the first place. They couldn’t just stop and search through all the cars for it, but he did manage to get his weapon back on the way.
Eventually, Lucas joined back up with Zoe and an unknown male friend of hers. It seemed like they’ve already cleaned up the place, and yet the general was nowhere to be found. Well, he couldn’t complain, that meant they could easily escape now. “Let’s save the greetings for later and get out of here. That Azurine general could very well be on her way.”
But he had to jinx their luck, or the fate decided to switch sides on them when that damned general along with her men seemed to appear almost out of nowhere saying that this was a trap. "You might as well consider yourself lucky, Lucas. You wanted to see me draw my blade against you. Your little friend has brought such a fate upon all of you." She arrogantly spoke while drawing her own sword out against them, but she was offering them a choice to either surrender or die. Lucas didn’t have much to lose and as for the group… well, they were practically surrounded. He wasn’t going to go down without a fight.
Lucas gave a brief glance at the companions behind him, and then back at the lead general with a glare as he stuck up a middle finger right at her. “Well, how about I give a big ‘fuck you’ and a new makeover for your face? Honestly, I think you need one.” He yelled and unsheathed the gunblade from his back. “What are you waiting for? Bring it on, you degenerate blonde bitch!” |

Although she knew that it was almost inevitable that they would have to kill their enemies, guilt swept through her. Of course, if she failed to retrieve Lucas and the Sword of Maxwell these men would likely die anyways so it was probably better to end the lives of a few in order to preserve the lives of all the inhabitants of Yumiris. She glanced at the man she had assaulted upon entering the train car and couldn’t help feeling relieved to see that he appeared to still be alive, though he’d probably need medical attention quickly before he lost too much blood. Well, his comrades would arrive soon, but hopefully by then they would have left the train behind.
Zoe turned to ensure Leras was still unscathed and was pleased to see that the soldiers hadn’t managed to injure him. She nodded as he mentioned that more soldiers would soon arrive, though she was thankful that he didn’t point out that it was probably her fault. Figuring that they shouldn’t wait any more time she moved towards the door that led into the compartment where Lucas was being held. However, it seemed as though Leras still had something to say.
Pausing, Zoe turned back to Leras, wondering why he seemed so hesitant. At first she wasn’t certain what he was talking about. If she was honest with herself, Zoe wasn’t completely sure where she stood with Lucas. It was her fault that he had been arrested in the first place and she suspected that he would be necessary to her plans due to his strange connection with the Sword of Maxwell. Still, she wasn’t totally certain if he was important to her in the way Leras implied. After all, Zoe felt as if she didn’t quite know or understand the boy from Cirith, even if he had saved her life shortly after her arrival on Yumiris.
However, Zoe didn’t have much time to think on such things as Leras continued to speak. A wide grin crept onto her face as she listened and a single word seemed to echo through her mind. Perhaps it was childish to be overjoyed simply because he’d said that he thought of her as a friend, but Zoe didn’t really care. Her smile widened further as he suggested that they protect each other to the point where she probably looked a bit foolish. “Of course!” she responded before awkwardly adding, “You know, you’re um…pretty important to me too.” Although she was embarrassed to even say that much, Zoe acknowledged that her words were an understatement. Still, it wasn’t as though she had the time to explain to Leras that he was one of the first friends she’d had in years. Not that it would have been an easy thing to admit even if they’d had plenty of time though.
As her face began to heat up Zoe turned back to the door which led to Lucas’ compartment. It was locked shut with a simple bolt which she was grateful for since going through the dead or unconscious guards in order to find a key did not sound very desirable. Pulling back the bolt, Zoe flung open the door and stuck her head inside, expecting to see both Voletta and Lucas. For a moment, panic rushed through her when she saw that the compartment was empty; had they actually put Lucas elsewhere? The window was broken though, so Voletta must have at least gotten that far. She turned back to tell Leras, only to find that Lucas and Voletta must have elected to climb back outside the train car since they had managed to get behind her.
Zoe’s relief only lasted a short moment before she took in Voletta’s cut up state. Her eyes widened as she realized that the injuries must have been caused by the glass and she stepped forward, intending to rush over to her. Before she could move, Lucas spoke. Despite knowing that it really was her fault that he’d been caught in the first place, he could have at least greeted and thanked Leras and Voletta. After all, they didn’t need to come and Voletta had evidently been injured trying to save him.
Still, the second part of what he said caught her attention even more and she squashed her annoyance in order to ask, “There’s a general? Here?” That wasn’t good. Although Zoe had known that the train was likely packed with soldiers, she hadn’t really expected one of the higher ups to be have taken the time to come after her. In hindsight it made sense that the responsibility would be given to a higher ranking officer though since she had managed to give all the men the Empire had sent so far the slip.
She didn’t have time to dwell on her misfortune though, since it seemed as though the enemy reinforcements had arrived on both sides of the car. Inwardly Zoe swore; she’d thought they would have had a little more time. The blond woman seemed to be the leader; the other soldiers seemed to defer to her and her armor seemed of much better quality than her subordinates. However, even though Zoe was only of average height she felt as if she almost towered over the woman.
It seemed best to keep that thought to herself for now though. Instead Zoe simply raised an eyebrow when the general declared that this was a trap. She had expected as much and she didn’t need to be told that her actions hadn’t been very wise. However, nobody else knew exactly what depended on Lucas and the sword. If they disappeared into the capital it might be next to impossible to rescue them.
Clearly the general was ready to fight in order to bring her in and Lucas wasn’t exactly helping to diffuse the situation with his rather inflammatory comments. Zoe stepped forward, positioning herself in front of her companions. “I’m not going to surrender,” she stated plainly, “but I would ask that you listen to me for a moment.” Although she doubted that she would be able to talk the general out of fighting, Zoe figured that she would at least be able to give the woman something to ponder. None of the soldiers she had faced so far were in a position to do anything even if they were open to being reasoned with, but she hoped that one of the general’s station would be different.
“I have no intention of harming your nation. In fact, I would argue that I am trying to achieve the opposite.” Zoe spoke formally as she pled her case, knowing that in a way she was representing the Ancients as a race. She half wondered what her companions would think of her words, but she decided that there really was no purpose in hiding who she was since the general clearly had recognized her. “My people have no quarrel with yours, aside from your insistence on capturing me. I do not know what you want, but I will argue that my purpose is vital.” Of course she wasn’t about to blab everything to this woman, but she hoped that her words would still be convincing.
Zoe brought her shield up and pointed her sword at the blond woman. “However, if you persist in your attempt to capture me, I promise you that I will not come quietly,” she said firmly, though she was beginning to tire of formal speech. Hopefully her words would have some sort of effect on the woman, even if it did not show immediately. Regardless, Zoe doubted that she would be able to walk away peacefully, but she was ready for the fight that was to come. A general would certainly make a tough opponent, especially with so many reinforcements, but Zoe decided that no matter the outcome she’d make sure to at least get the others out. word count -- tags -- notes -- |

DIVIDE AND CONQUER THE TRIALS OF MAN.
She was grinning at what he said, ah how friendship was a beautiful thing. She said that she was important to him and he was caught off guard by such a thing. well, they had spent a few days together, so he definitely must've felt the same way if he was here right now with her without saying much of the matter. When he thought of Voletta, he had the same feelings. Friendship was surely an interesting maiden, but she was certainly kind in giving him her blessing on these two women. He nodded quietly, cracking a smile at how embarrassed she seemed after saying it. Though he was also no better when speaking of his feelings, far more eloquent in speaking his mind on other matters than feelings he thought he'd never feel for anyone in the slave ring that he was living within just almost a week ago. "Thank you, I'm glad." He simply said, soon seeing that she was readying herself to go into the next car, she looked ahead and saw that there wasn't anyone in there, however Leras did look in a little to see broken glass everywhere. Voletta must've successfully gotten in.
She turned back to him, but her expression changed, Leras soon following suite to share a similar expression of great concern. He could see that the glass did a number upon her, the blood on her clothes was alarming, little trickles here and there for numerous small wounds. "Gods, Voletta..." He paused, taking in the sight of the man that Zoe wished to keep alive. Well, he was quite rude for one, not wanting to introduce himself or know the names of the others. He frowned, though his eyes narrowed when he heard his next words. "Are you certain? ...wonderful." He could only grip his spear with his frustration, scowling at the thought of dealing with a high ranking general of the Empire's army. No matter how much confidence they may have had with their abilities, going against a General will be a totally different experience. As expected, she came in with soldiers flanking both sides of them, effectively surrounding them. The General knew her name no less, trying to taunt her into making a wrong move from what was already done.
So, the man's name was Lucas. Well, he certainly had a mouth, soon taunting and berating the General in the way only a manner-less degenerate would give. Leras looked at him disapprovingly briefly, though at least he grabbed a sword to defend himself with. His words would be just as useless as his fists against these people. Her sword had much girth, holding it with both hands. Zoe took a step forward and addressed the General with her own words. As Leras expected, she wasn't going to surrender, and that she wished to speak further. What she said confused Leras a bit. Her people? What people? Wasn't she human? Well, then again, he had never seen a human glow before. When he thought about what Ridgley said and the chatter that went on days before she showed up, he knew that she was something special. The talk of a woman with white hair and red eyes was on the lips of many those few days before her arrival. He took a step forward to stand properly next to Zoe.
"I will stand with her." He started, intent clear on fighting alongside her. "I couldn't care anymore less on what she is to be quite frank, and I owe her a debt I feel can never truly be repaid completely, but..." He paused, eyebrows lowering with distaste and bitterness. "Don't give me that merciful nonsense. Had there been any shred of mercy in the Empire at all than the slave ring I was a part of all my life would be dealt with at a swift manner and I wouldn't have had to stay there like a bird dressed up in fancy clothing to entertain your kind's depraved need for superiority and greed." He pointed his own spear at her, willing to fight if he had to.
"I will be cast to damnation if I allow myself to be thrown once more into a cage and left to rot; jail cell or opulent stage." He let his expression drop to a cool neutral state, however the hatred burned in his eyes rather brightly. "You know what will likely come from this, but I know my own. If things take a negative turn for me, then death would be a respite I would gladly take." But he will still fight, and somehow if he was able to get Zoe and the others out of here, he would thank Sylph for her kindness.

GO AND TELL YOUR WHITE KNIGHT THAT HE'S HANDSOME IN HINDSIGHT, 'CAUSE I DON'T WANT THE NEXT BEST THING. SO I SING AND HOLD MY HEAD DOWN AND I BREAK THESE WALLS AROUND ME. CAN'T TAKE NO MORE OF YOUR "FAIRY TALE LOVE" ---- A frown formed upon her lips when the male stated that they would need to hurry to the others. She of course knew that but why was he climbing back through the window when there was a fine door right next to them. Even though she would have rather done it the easy way seemed like he wasn't about to. Have to stay with him, was all she was thinking. She was not about to leave the male that her friend risked to help alone. What happened if he fell of the train and died!? Wait maybe that was a good id- no not nice, not nice at all. Taking a deep breath she twirled the katana in her hand before slipping it once more back into the case. Great she was going to go climbing once more. Her feet crunched and clicked upon the glass as she made her way back to the window. Taking a hold of the side she climbed to the roof. The sharp pain in her side reminded her that yes indeed she was hurt worse then she thought.
Her feet landed quietly upon the roof as she started back the way she came. Was it her or did her body feel slightly heavier? Shaking her head she gripped the edge of the roof before tossing herself over. She was over thinking things, the girl was fine. Keep telling herself that and she could get through anything. Her once graceful jump was now a little to wobbly for her own good but the moment she stepped back into the view of her friend her body straightened. They would only see the small cuts upon her body unless they got close enough to see the real damage. No need for them to worry so much, even though it seemed like they were already doing it. Raising her hand she gently waved at their words. "I am fine" came her response. A smile at Zoe and Leras was what she allowed herself to do as the blonde haired female stepped into the room. Moving her hand she reached behind her to take hold of her katana once more. Unlike her friends she was about to say anything, no need. The Shi didn't have to explain that they planed to rebel it was always written on their faces from daily life.
Was it her or did the blonde look a bit blurry? Pulling her eyes away from the female she allowed them to rest on her side once more. Blood had started to slip from the wound more then she wanted, dripping down the black jacket she wore toward her shorts, soon she would not be able to hide the wound once it reached her skin. A small set of curses slipped her lips in a mutter as she faced herself forward. This was nothing, all she had to do was clear the pain as she was trained. Wounds could and would not bring the female down on this mission. Fingers wrapped tighter around the handle of the weapon, she could do this. "As much as all this talking is lovely. Can we please get going? Or does the ape need to speak once more?" Oh she was pissed.

i just want one more chance [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true]“Well, how about I give a big ‘fuck you’ and a new makeover for your face? Honestly, I think you need one. What are you waiting for? Bring it on, you degenerate blonde bitch!” She was the degenerate, and he spoke like that? The faintest of grins crossed her lips as his words continued to lash to empty air. When was he going to drop the attempts to arouse her wrath? Had he not realized that she was too calm and collected of an individual to be affected by petty words? Surely he had to be far more intelligent than that. Or perhaps Cassiondra was giving him far too much credit. She almost didn't believe that this boy had evaded her men so easily, considering the way he spoke and even the way he moved, his way of hefting the broadsword almost clumsy in comparison to even her most untrained men.
It appeared that Lucas' companions, as well, were just as unimpressed by his racous behaviour as the General was. Well, at least that was something they all had in common. Zoe, however, seemed to wish to take the lead, of which Cass was glad; perhaps the girl would at least have a sense of diplomacy and some semblance of respect for authority. Lucas clearly didn't, not even when that authority was quite kind and accommodating to him. Zoe wouldn't surrender, but she did want Cass to listen, and so, with such diplomacy at hand, she chose to give the girl the chance. If only her orders weren't so strict...
“I have no intention of harming your nation. In fact, I would argue that I am trying to achieve the opposite. My people have no quarrel with yours, aside from your insistence on capturing me. I do not know what you want, but I will argue that my purpose is vital.” This was the portion of her job she hated the absolute most. No, if she hadn't been given orders to capture, it would have been Cass' choice to approach this from a diplomatic standpoint in the first place. What was the point in fighting, in crossing blades, when it could be handled diplomatically? She had reason to believe that with the knowledge of what Zoe's intents were, her purpose likely was good and vital. Even she could tell, from the look in the ancient's eyes, her way of speaking, and simply the air she gave off that she was of a noble spirit.
“However, if you persist in your attempt to capture me, I promise you that I will not come quietly.” That, too, she believed. And she did not blame Zoe one bit. If she'd been in the same situation, Cassiondra would have also hated herself. She knew the way she came off was cold and heartless, but it was the only way for her to continue on. To do what she wanted to do, and finally have the control over the Navy like she wished. To handle things without bloodshed, and to avoid needlessly sacrificing the lives of her men for nothing. At least three or four of her men had died here today. She at least wouldn't allow that to be in vain.
She watched still as the halfling boy moved forward, moving to stand next to Zoe. She did not know his name, but she very well wished she did. She saw the spirit of a leader and a warrior, a spirit Cassiondra herself could most easily respect.
"I will stand with her. I couldn't care anymore less on what she is to be quite frank, and I owe her a debt I feel can never truly be repaid completely, but... Don't give me that merciful nonsense. Had there been any shred of mercy in the Empire at all than the slave ring I was a part of all my life would be dealt with at a swift manner and I wouldn't have had to stay there like a bird dressed up in fancy clothing to entertain your kind's depraved need for superiority and greed." That, she knew, was true. A few of her men had learned of the slave ring, and yet she was not allowed to do anything about it. Her resistance had tracked it, but... Even then, there was nothing that could be done. It was well-hidden, kept underground, and she'd had no chance of finding the poor souls subjected to it. At the very least, however, she was glad that from the way this halfling boy spoke of it, that it was not like most other slave rings she'd heard of. At least they were treated with some sense of dignity, if only a little.
"I will be cast to damnation if I allow myself to be thrown once more into a cage and left to rot; jail cell or opulent stage. You know what will likely come from this, but I know my own. If things take a negative turn for me, then death would be a respite I would gladly take."
Cassiondra would not kill him. That would not be a form of mercy.
None would have noticed how much she was internally wrestling with herself, keeping her own cool with her hatred of her orders. How despicable, to think that the Imperial Family could order her to put these four under capture. Or even attempt to capture Zoe in the first place. Had they no sense of diplomacy and proper knowledge? Surely Zoe might have come without a fight, if it had been a diplomatic encounter. They might not have even needed to imprison her. They would have had the grace and aid of the Navy, were Cass their true leader. She was merely a figurehead, forced to bend to the will of the royalty, even though she was of blue blood herself.
"Such noble sentiments." Her voice remained cold and unfeeling. There was, however, a double meaning to that; she really did respect their noble sentiments. But she refused to show it. She refused to allow herself to drop that mask that kept her in her position. Perhaps, should luck be with them, they might get to see what the General was truly like, behind that cold, decisive mask of a leader. If she had the time, she would show proper respect for whatever it was they were trying to do. Ignoring the third girl's protests, the general's face went cold once more, as she raised her blade.
"By the orders of the Imperial Family. I will capture all of you." She signaled her men. Auldrant came from behind first, aiming for the girl with the sword and the halfling boy. The other two directed towards the front, gunning straight for Zoe. Cassiondra herself, however, wanted a piece of that boy from Cirith. He'd wanted to go up against her in a straightforward sword fight; now he would receive that honor. She might not have been angered by his insults, but she did have a sense of the fact that Lucas needed to be put in his place. And so, she would be the one to do that.
She would have moved with extensive grace and speed, directly towards Lucas, focusing mana into her sword. Stopping just short, she slashed first upwards, then downwards. Hopefully, even if Lucas managed to block the attack, he would be thrown off guard by her speed and underlying strength. to put my arms in fragile hands |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width: 387px,bTable][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign,top] | [atrb=valign, top] I AM NOW, AN INSTRUMENT OF VIOLENCE! I AM A VESSEL OF INVINCIBILITY! Even if his teammates disapproved his behavior, Lucas didn’t care for much about their opinions. He was going to do whatever he pleased as long as it could help them. If he could put up good enough of a show to have these numskulls focus him rather than Zoe and her company, then he was sure they would be able to escape. Also considering the amount of work they did so far, he was confident that they could handle most of the small fries. “By the orders of the Imperial family, I will capture all of you.” That was the signal. Lucas firmly gripped his gunblade and took off from where he had once stood at unprecedented speeds at the same time with the general at a seemingly almost reckless – if not, suicidal charge. However, being a much more skilled swordsman, the General took the initiative.
The first vertical takeoff slash caught him off guard, causing him to quickly skid to a halt and leap backwards. Her speed was unnerving, but she would soon come to know that the boy was no push-over. As the sword came down Lucas clinched his free-hand on the flat of his sword and parried the incoming blow that fell like a guillotine in midair. Though her strength was nothing to scoff at, it was nothing that Lucas can’t handle. Using the opportunity he had, he scraped his sword’s edge against hers and quickly cleared it away with the cross guard to his left before stepping in with a pommel strike to her face to force her backwards. The boy then stepped in once more, twisted his body and brought his sword backwards for a wide, wide powerful swing as if ready to strike for her vital, unprotected neck, but that was feigned with a well-aimed knee strike from his right to her stomach to once again, drive her back. Now, while Lucas had fought some soldiers, he learned a thing or two about swinging swords. While his techniques were somewhat unrefined, it got the job done. Usually.
“Storm Raid!”
This time around, Lucas leapt towards Cassiondra and started spinning with his sword like a deadly buzzsaw flying through the air. The continuous string of deadly slashes would drive her back, whether it was blocked or not, it was going to end up him blasting shockwave all over the place from swinging his weapon at such force. |

She nodded as he spoke of the Empire’s lack of mercy; even if she was attempting to appeal to the general’s better nature she could not ignore that all she had seen of the nation’s soldiers so far was brutish cruelty. Zoe turned sharply as she heard him speak of death as preferable to capture, but before she could voice her disagreement the general spoke.
Zoe had to wonder if the general was being sarcastic as she aloofly stated that their sentiments were noble. Still, even if the woman had listened to their words seriously, she didn’t seem to have been convinced in the slightest. Instead she simply called for their capture. Well, Zoe had expected as much but it was still frustrating to have her words basically ignored, though perhaps the general would at least relate them to the Imperial family.
Regardless, it seemed as if Voletta was about to get her wish that they stop talking and get moving. At the general’s signal the soldiers moved to attack. It seemed as though the general hadn’t been completely immune to Lucas’ insults as she seemed to make him her target. Two of them started in Zoe’s direction, but aside from the general she was more worried about the man who had flanked them. He seemed to be better equipped and moved more confidently than the grunts, although some of the decoration on his armor and weapon seemed rather excessive.
“I’ve got these two,” she called quickly to Leras, “Could you and Voletta take that one?” Although Voletta had surprised her several times so far, Zoe wasn’t sure how well she would be able to fight. Hopefully Leras would be able to keep her from further harm.
However, there was no more time for words. One of her opponents swung his sword at her and she caught it on her shield and pushed it back towards him. His companion moved in to take his spot, but Zoe stabbed at him. Although he leaped back sharply, her sword pierced his shoulder. However, his partner was already attacking once again and this time he managed to slip under her guard and his blade nicked her sword arm.
She winced, realizing that while she probably could defeat them individually, taking them both simultaneously would be difficult especially since these men seemed to trained better than the those they had fought earlier. Blocking another strike with her shield, Zoe stepped forward and rammed it into the closest soldier. As the shield slammed into the man, a shockwave roared out and crashed into both soldiers sending them tumbling to the ground. Zoe leapt forwards and swung the pommel of her sword down onto the first man’s head, knocking him out cold. As she turned, the second soldier was already clambering to his feet. Zoe ducked as his sword whistled through the air and threw herself forward to stab the man in the stomach. He fell to the ground as she yanked the blade out of him and Zoe found herself hoping that the wound wouldn’t be fatal.
However, she didn’t have time to worry about him. Although Lucas seemed to have been learning to use a sword quickly, Zoe doubted that he would be able to last long against a general. Turning away from the injured soldier she started towards where the two were fighting. Hopefully Lucas would be able to hold out until she reached them. Still, Zoe wasn’t sure if this was a battle they would be able to win. Perhaps it would be better to start looking for the opportunity to flee. word count -- tags -- notes -- |

i just want one more chance [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true]musicSword of Promised Victory - Fate/Zero OST (Yuki Kajiura ver.)words945 notesLucas faceplant anyone? xD Also, we can probably roll into the portion with Auldrant in the next round if you guys want. (I'll just be waiting for Cap to add Zoe's vision in whenever, which is when he'll go psycho man.) artesbeast. It appeared that even the General herself had a fault when it came to judgement at times. She realized quickly she had quite heavily underestimated this boy's strength, failing to take into account that he might have been a rather worthwhile opponent. His strikes had strength and some speed behind them, but he lacked refinement, and it appeared he reacted solely on pure instinct. It was a style Cassiondra hadn't seen in a long time, but that didn't mean she was about to be caught off guard by them. Her first strike was ineffective, although she could tell it caught Lucas off guard; the second, he managed to parry, striking directly at her face afterwards. A gauntleted arm reached up as she leaned to the side, knocking the harmless blade away as metal clashed upon metal. As she did that, a leap backwards created some distance she could use to calculate his every move.
Then, he stepped in towards her, closing the short distance she'd created and striking at what would have been her unprotected neck. That was, of course, if she hadn't croched, raising her sword above her head in case he attempted a vertical slash as opposed to a horizontal one. The swing had power, she could tell, but the speed of it was lacking in comparison. This boy fought with strength as opposed to speed, a style which she was used to working with. It would be up to a matter of speed and dexterity -- and, perhaps, endurance -- to outmatch this boy. Raw strength wasn't going to be her key here, as far as she could tell.
Seeing the knee striking for her stomach, she dipped down further and pivoted into a roll, escaping in the opposite direction as the strike managed to just barely scrape by her shoulder. A close call, she could say. But the longer this went on, the more she was putting together his style of fighting, and the less of a chance he had of catching her off guard. Over fifteen years of learning how to combat different styles of fighting and how to put one together based on an opponent's choice movements was a key component this boy lacked in comparison to the General. This boy would be a good swordsman, if he were better trained to use one in the first place.
Cassiondra was quick to create more distance, preferring to avoid making the same crucial mistake again. Only by sheer instinct and a bit of luck had she managed to avoid taking a knee to the face. This boy was more skilled than she'd expected... And yet, he was still very unrefined. Slowly but surely she was piecing together what he might be capable of, working on formulating a strategy on the spot. She still didn't have quite enough information to go off of in order to ensure success, but she would continue trying until then. If anything, she would have the physical endurance to hold him off for a long period of time, or even two of them if it was required.
Soon Lucas was attacking once more, having leaped into the air swinging his sword in a very dangerous circular motion. Each of these attacks appeared to be attempts to drive her back, as they were directed at her, but in ways that were easy to avoid. Was he trying to back her into a corner, perhaps? He must not have realized just how dexterous she could be when she wanted. Her eyes watched, waiting. The shockwaves would have upset her footing if not for her stance being low and very well-centered, and she was ready and able to block the strikes once they would reach her. She was just waiting, and waiting, watching his momentum, sliding back as much as she could to time her strike just right.
And then, he began to lose velocity, switching from an upward motion to a downward one, as it appeared he intended to ground himself once more. That was Cass' chance. As the blade inched closer and closer to her, she quickly darted to the side, leaping in a dive roll only to spring back up to her feet as that soon positioned Lucas behind her, with his back to her. Using the wall as momentum, she pushed off, coming towards him heavy from behind just as the spinning stopped and he landed. If his reactions were quick enough, he'd be able to avoid what was coming to him, but if not, he would find himself quite painfully propelled forward and likely crash facefirst into the ground. Depending on how much he was able to react, it might send him skidding directly to the door, too. Normally, the arte she wanted to use would have required a downward strike to cause a stagger; however, with an exposed back to work with, Cass' need for the strike was inevitable.
"Beast!"
Striking with her shoulder to throw her weight into Lucas, she aimed to slam her weight into him and use her arm as a means to propel him forward, hopefully planting him on his face. Once complete, she would be sure to create as much distance as possible, noticing that two of her men were down -- it seemed that Zoe herself was an impeccable swordsman, enough to quickly dispatch two foot soldiers. Auldrant and his two men seemed to be quite occupied with the other two, which meant Cass had two to deal with all by herself... Thankfully, it appeared Auldrant had moved into the other car with them, leaving Cass a lot more room to move when dealing with two opponents. to put my arms in fragile hands |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width: 387px,bTable][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign,top] | [atrb=valign, top] I AM NOW, AN INSTRUMENT OF VIOLENCE! I AM A VESSEL OF INVINCIBILITY! “Damn it, what is she, an eel? For an old hag, she’s fast!”
Seeing how none of the strikes actually managed to hit her, Lucas knew that at this point that he should speed up a little. His brute strength alone as always wasn’t going to help as far as he knew, but it was to be expected, older people were more cunning, had more experience. Going at her like this wasn’t going to help him win. As he landed, and created a shockwave all around him, he saw that she quickly managed to move out of the way of his deadly slash and attempted a flanking move. By the time he turned around, she was coming right at him using the wall of the car as a momentum to push her forward. He knew what she was going to do, a heavy attack from behind in hopes of finishing him off when he had his back turned, but the boy wasn’t going to go down that easily. As the attack neared, he ducked, put strength into his legs and rolled past her on his shoulder. With it, he barely managed to dodge both the tackle along with the ear-deafening shockwave. Now he was the one behind her thanks to the risk he took.
“An opening!”
Lucas wasn’t about to let this opportunity go to waste, and most likely he wasn’t going to get another chance to throw in a decisive blow. He quickly stood back up on his feet and pressed the trigger on his gunblade to send him rocketing forward at enormous speeds. With the momentum behind him, he brought the weapon down a lightning fast diagonal slash. At this range, and because of the speed he was travelling in, she probably didn’t have much choice other than to block even if she did see it coming. If blocked, she did she would quickly find the strength of the attack absolutely overwhelming due to the weapon’s propulsion system. |

Inwardly she winced to see the general launch off an attack that was disturbingly similar to the one she had just employed; it was discomforting to see any parallels between her and her opponent. At least Lucas managed to dodge the general’s attack. He certainly was more agile than she had given him credit for.
Now it seemed as though Lucas was in the perfect position to attack, as was she. Zoe had finally managed to get within striking distance just as her ally launched himself forwards. Now that they had the general trapped between them, there might just be a chance that they could scrape a victory. Of course, it would be dangerous to expect that they could win simply because they had managed to flank the woman. Still, a glimpse of the possibility was enough for now.
Zoe didn’t hesitate to bring her sword up in a swift horizontal slash aimed directly at the general’s neck. However, before she could follow up the blow, images began to rush into her mind. No! Not now, dammit! She barely had time for a single thought of her own before the images took over and she became no more than an aloof spectator to the events unfolding in the train car. Although part of her mind could see what was occurring in front of her, most of her conscious was elsewhere. To anyone watching her, Zoe would have appeared to simply freeze in the middle of the battle. Her hands might still be gripping her sword and shield, but they were motionless as a fiery blue glow seemed to burn across her skin.
In her mind’s eye, Zoe witnessed as a people rose up against their rulers. The lush lands of Undine withered right in front of her, as the land Fell. Even as she watched, a grand city and a mighty castle fell into decay. She had never been to the capital of the Empire before, but she knew that this was Gladiolus. This was the homeland of those who had become her enemies, yet she still felt the crumbling of the land as a savage blow. Even if she was not fond of the Empire, she would not wish this on anyone. This was the future; though she had no clue how long it would be before it came to pass.
Almost unbidden, Zoe’s mouth opened and she spoke, staring straight ahead at the general although she barely registered the woman’s presence. “The Empire along with all of Undine’s domain shall be destroyed.” The words seemed to belong to another person entirely, yet as soon as she had spoken Zoe began to return to the present and to a sharp pain in her chest. word count -- tags -- notes – Sorry it took so long >_<. |
