Children of nobles, things were set up as per usual process. Her father, Brasil LaRoux, was the General of the Rouge division, and it was expected that his son would follow in his footsteps and join the military himself one day. Tina, however, was taught to be a noblewoman. It seemed like a typical noble family, though the younger twin had hidden desires. She actually admired her father, more so than her brother. She enjoyed hearing tales of his time in battle, and the process of the military intrigued her to no end. Her mother, Clarissa LaRoux, asked that Brasil limit such stories around Tina, but he just smiled. Clarissa enjoyed hearing his stories both before and after they were married. She knew this, and backed down after a while. However, she made sure Tina was more centered around where she was meant to be whenever her brother and father were out. By nine, Tina made a request to learn swordplay. Her parents were surprised, though her father considered it. After some talk, her parents found a way to work things out. Tina's brother, Jacob, would teach her what he knew as he went along. Their father thought it would be a way to give Tina what she wanted, and help Jacob become more of a leader. Though her brother protested, Tina talked him into it. She wasn't able to spend much time with him before, so she actually considered it a bonus. A year went by and the younger twin slowly learned the basics. Her brother was actually a better teacher than anyone expected, but she had a time keeping up. In fact, it made their parents believe Tina was meant to be a noblewoman, but the girl still wanted to learn how to fight, bringing up a bunch of 'what if' scenarios to defend her case. Her mother found something in place of swordplay, which actually surprised everyone. If not the sword, she could learn magic. Tina went to work on her mother's suggestion, and found it easier for her to grasp and even use. They finally found a compromise... Until a dark cloud found it's way in their lives. At eleven, Jacob started to get weak. At first, they considered it a small and common illness. Something he would get over after a few days. However, it slowly got worse. Jacob tried to fight it and continue learning from his father, but he would always eventually collapse... and each time it took less for it to happen. He later became bedridden, and no matter what they did, he wouldn't get any better. Before their twelfth birthday, Tina's twin couldn't hold on any longer, and passed away. It was a hard moment, though Brasil tried to act like a soldier, it was plainly obvious that he wouldn't be the same. The General had a time figuring out where Tina should be after his son's passing. He knew she wasn't much of a swordsman, and she was finally settling into being a noblewoman. Clarissa did not say much on the subject, knowing her personal desires to keep Tina as she is may not be the best course of action for the family name. But Tina thought about this herself, as it was on her mind throughout most of her days since Jacob left. Then she decided, and addressed her parents. "Mother, Father... I wish to pick up where Jacob left off. Please, let me carry on the LaRoux legacy." Hearing this, it greatly influenced her father's choice. He would allow her to do as she wished, but he felt she shouldn't be in the Rouges. So, he suggested her to the Schwartz, them saying they'll consider her once she came of age. It was a stretch as she wasn't well versed in a sword, but her magic was progressing well. Brasil told this to his daughter, but she took it as a challenge. By then, her father found an instructor, giving her a balanced schedule for her new future. If only he could live to see it. When Tina was around thirteen, word got around of the Guilds making a forward march for the Empire, and the order was issued for the Rouges to counter their advance. Tina and her mother considered this like a business meeting, believing their father would come home with a new story to tell. Instead, they received only his belongings and a message they never wanted to hear. He died in battle. Clarissa broke down, but Tina just stood there in disbelief. The soldier who gave them the message also had one more thing. A present General LaRoux wanted to give her on her birthday. A finely crafted Rapier along with a gold armlet engraved with the message "To my spirit-filled daughter". Since that day, Valentina spent three years training with a sword, pushing past her blocks until she was identified as a well-rounded swords-woman. At 16, she joined the Schwartz division, earning her place both on and off the field of battle. As the years went by, she became rather respected amongst others, though some commoners were wary of her as her opinions usually matched those of the nobility, but that was honestly expected. In time, she was promoted to Captain, even though some wished her to be the General given how she was a inspiration to a lot of people in the lower ranks, though the true reason was that she was the daughter of a former General. Tina, however, didn't want it. She saw her father as a great General, and she doesn't consider herself close enough to him to be one. At least... not yet. notes OPTIONAL.
