There are those in culture that revered them as gods. Worshiped them and admired their great power. Those who have sacrificed much in hopes of gaining their blessing. Some bit of wealth for their humble sacrifice and show of loyalty. Such is how his tale started. A woman in a village less wealthy then the rest within the lands of Xihe, gave birth to a babe born with a small set of double horns and small dragon like wings. A third of the village feared it. Called the creature the woman's curse for a child born out of wedlock. Demanded she leave the village with her curse and her shame immediately. Another third of the village feared the woman and her child and avoided walking past her small hut of a house and if they had to walked passed with their heads down. Not a word to be spoken until they were long past the place and then there would be the whisper of shame and fear. The last bit of the village didn't fear the woman and her child, didn't view her as a curse but a blessing and where the ones who fought to let her stay. The ones that feared her spoke of her staying as well simply because they feared her wrath should she be made to leave. It was nothing but arguments for months until the tired mother made a compromise. She would remove herself from the inner part of the village and make her home in a new hut on the outskirts of town. It was agreed and so for some time life went on. She named her babe Longwei. Fitting she though for a wyvern halfling being that it mean "Great dragon." Great he would be she was sure and she never wanted him to forget that despite the whispers he received growing up. The look of hate and fear. Taught him as well to not let the fawning he revived by others to get to his head. Being great does not mean you deserve to be fawned over. It meant you had to have a reason for it, you had to be a great man and even then you had to take it with grace. Ask not that they do these things, that you were simply humbled in being their friend. As he grew other word was spread to other villages and soon people started to visit, come to pay homage to the village that birthed such a glorious creature who's ancestors were certainly the great and mighty dragons of old themselves. Gifts were given to the village and gifts were given to the mother and her son. By the time he was nine years old it was a common thing but with word of greatness also birthed greed and envy. People came for him. Swept over the village raided every halfling home in search for the wyvern halfling. When the screams reached the ears of Longwei's mother she immediately went to that of a house close to them. A woman with halfling children of her own, a woman who she counted as a dear friend. Instinct told her the disaster was over her child because how could it not be? Hate was a thing that she had to walk around carefully every day. So she gave the woman money and pleaded to her to take her child and hers to the Namco Banda. Gave her instruction as to where she might find it. Hide there with her children as well as that of her own. Reluctant she was at first because this was her home but her home was also being burned so out of self preservation and respect for the blessed mother and her child she did as she asked. He screamed and fought for his mother to come with them. The nine year old boy's heart breaking but his mother refused to leave. Said it was his time to show how great he was. His first steps to take on the path of the good man she knows he will become. Told him to be strong. Be brave and go fiercely into the world but hold with him a gentle hand. So she left him while he screamed to the point of the woman having to terribly knock him out in order to get him and her own children to safety. He never saw or heard of his mother again after that night. It took them days to find the hidden village and when they were just about to give up scouts for the village found them. After much debate and the tale of terror they would brought to the village and even then they were questioned to make sure they weren't some sort of trick. They were held for days and when they were satisfied with the fact that no one seemed to be ambushing or following them they were allowed to become residents of the village. He grew up a child with anger in his heart. Struggling to find the balance of a great man his mother wanted him to be and the rage that boiled inside. Self hatred was a thing that started to become a weapon of his destruction. He became troubled. Caused trouble in school and for his foster family. Lied. Cheated. Stole. Began to falter from the path of a good man until he was twelve and a guard for the village stepped in seeing him for what he was. A hurt and lost child. And so he asked his foster mother if he might take him and try and place him on the right track and she agreed. From there it was years of training and lessons and the tough hand of love that finally set him back on track again. Where there was pain and loss he offered kindness and guidance. Where there was hate for the world he was shown the imperfection of people and that one should pity those with nothing but hate in their heart. He showed him how to be a better man. Still though he grew up displeased with the fact that the village wished to stay hidden, didn't care to take revenge for the death of the halflings that were killed in the raid for the village for him...and because of the great guilt that has built up inside him for the fact that all of it happened because of him Wei decided to leave. Flew from place to place in thought to try and repent for the sins he had caused as well as maybe find the path of this great man his mother wanted him to be. notes Tid-Bits
